The Clinical Journal Therapy
Home Study Series

Together, a comprehensive 44-hour program in clinical journal therapy available in the convenience of your home, office or car! The Center for Journal Therapy is approved by the National Board for Certified Counselors as Provider #5782 of continuing education. All programs are stand-alone and may be taken in any order, or in any combination. Note that this continuing education series is appropriate only for mental health professionals.

CHS 1: Tools and Techniques -- 8 hours

You'll learn dozens of proven, time-tested techniques to help clients get started with journalkeeping as a route to self-awareness, insight, enhanced self-concept and lasting change.

CHS 2: Experiential Workshop -- 11 hours

In this audio workshop, you'll learn and practice pragmatic, hands-on ways to teach the toolbox of journal techniques to counseling clients in 1:1 or group settings.

CHS 3: Men's Issues -- 10 hours

A specialized program in journal therapy that shows how men can achieve personal growth, creative expression, career enhancement and community with others through the simple yet powerfully effective practice of journal writing.

CHS 4: Tools for Trauma Survivors -- 9 hours

A self-paced, well-structured individualized learning plan that teaches a developmentally sound way of approaching journal writing for clients with histories of traumatic stress.

CHS 5: Lectures in Journal Therapy -- 6 hours

Some of the most innovative and critical thinking in journal therapy available today for clinicians who want to deepen their understanding of journal writing to include "the story behind the story."

CHS 1: Tools and Techniques

Journal to the Self, one of the five best-selling books on journalkeeping of all time, and The Journal Tape offer psychotherapists everywhere a window into the extraordinary transformative powers of journal writing. You will learn:

  • Dozens of journal interventions designed to achieve specific results
  • How to help your clients get started with the basics of journalkeeping as a route to self-awareness, insight, enhanced self-concept and lasting change

CHS 2: Experiential Journal Workshop

Developed while working with trauma survivors at a national treatment center, these techniques can be used with anyone in pain who wishes to gain greater self-understanding. You will learn:

  • Why the "journal ladder" is crucial in helping trauma clients develop confidence, trust and safety in the process of therapeutic writing

The program, which has been approved for nine (9) continuing education hours by the National Board for Certified Counselors, consists of:

Program Logistics

Please provide licensure or advanced degree in counseling, social work, clinical psychology, or a related field on your order form. Orders will be shipped by priority mail within 10 business days of receipt, unless otherwise notified. Overnight delivery and priority processing are available for additional fees. You may order online  with MasterCard or Visa, using our secure server. Participants will document learning by submitting a brief response paper addressing how the learning will be used in professional practice. A certificate for continuing education is mailed within 10 business days of receipt of the response paper and other course documentation.
